A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH ENDORSING A MARINA MARDI
GRAS TO BE HELD UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE
NATIONAL MARINE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION ONE
WEEK PRIOR TO THE BOAT SHOW.
WHEREAS , the NATIONAL MARINE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION,
sponsors of the Boat Show to be held February 22 through 27, 1985,
has suggested that a week-long Mardi Gras be held one week prior
to the boat show itself; and
WHEREAS, the Mardi Gras would entice visitors and
tourists to a week-long event which would offer marine activities
including boating, fishing, sailing, displays of fishing and
diving gear , scuba diving, treasure hunts, surfing, windsurfing
shell hunts, and any other water-related activity; and
WHEREAS, Jeff W. Napier , President of the National
Marine Manufacturers Association has requested that the City of
Miami Beach make available services consisting of public relations
and use of facilities and personnel with the hope that the
activity might eventually become an "International Mardi Gras of
Marine Activity" ; and
WHEREAS, it would be within the province of the Visitor
and Convention Authority to promote, advertise and otherwise
disseminate information regarding this great event,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH enthusiastically endorses a Marina
Mardi Gras to be held one week before the February, 1985 Boat
Show, and agrees to support this event by making available to the
National Marine Manufacturers Association such city services,
personnel and facilities as may be deemed appropriate by the City
Manager in his discretion.
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that the Visitor and Convention
