A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE
DADE COUNTY BEACH REVEGETATION PROJECT AND
URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL
RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING
A $1,000 ,000 INCREASE IN FUNDING FOR THIS
PROJECT IN THE 1984-85 STATE BUDGET.
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature appropriated
$1,500 ,000 in Fixed Capital outlay funds in support of the Dade
County Beach Revegetation Project during the 1982 legislative
session, and this funding was increased to a total of $2 ,000 ,000
during the 1983 legislative session; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the Metro-Dade
County staff that in excess of $3 ,000 ,000 is necessary to
accomplish the revegetation program; and
WHEREAS, Dade County has passed a resolution
requesting an additional $1,000 ,000 from the state over the
$2 ,000 ,000 already appropriated to fund the project, and Dade
County has committed to match State funds with $666 ,660 in
County funds; and
WHEREAS, the Beach revegetation project would help to
greatly reduce beach erosion losses of the restored beach and
would increase the level of hurricane protection:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COM-
MISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City of
Miami Beach support the Dade County Beach Revegetation Project
and urge the Florida Department of Natural Resources to support
this project, including a $1,000 ,000 increase in funding for
this project in the 1984-85 State budget.
