RESOLUTION 84-17840 RESOLUTION NO. 84-17840 A RESOLUTION URGING COUNTY COMMISSION TO COMMENCE DISCUSSIONS RELATIVE TO FUNDING THE LIFEGUARD OPERATION. WHEREAS, the beaches located on Miami Beach are used predominantly by people who live in other parts of Dade County, and WHEREAS, Miami Beach is facing budgetary problems which require a tax increase and a reduction of services, and WHEREAS, it is necessary that adequate lifeguard protection be provided to users of the beach, and WHEREAS, the funding of the lifeguard service on Miami Beach is an expense which should not only be borne by citizens of Miami Beach but rather should be a countywide expense, WHEREAS, Crandon Park is similarly a beach enjoyed by all the residents of Dade County and Dade County pays for the lifeguard services there, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of Miami Beach requests the County Commission to take over the lifeguard operation on Miami Beach and to immediately commence discussions with the City of Miami Beach that will ultimately lead to the achievement of this goal.
