A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, ENCOURAGING METROPOLITAN DADE
COUNTY TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT
OF $200,000 IN ORDER TO CREATE A FACILITY TO
PROVIDE TEMPORARY SHELTER FOR VICTIMS OF
FAMILY VIOLENCE IN DADE COUNTY.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women has
brought to the attention of the Miami Beach City Commission that there exists a need to
provide more temporary shelter space for victims of family violence; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach City Commission understands and empathizes
with the plight of victims of family violence, and recognizes the wide-spread nature of
family violence; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach City Commission is cognizant that incidence
of family violence is not limited geographically, demographically or otherwise, and realizes
there exists a need to provide temporary shelter in the southern reaches of Dade County;
and
WHEREAS, the Dade County Commission has currently before it a request
for $200,000 to assist in providing such a shelter in southern Dade County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, supports and applauds the efforts of
Metropolitan Dade County to provide temporary shelter for victims of family violence and
supports the creation of such a facility in South Dade County, and the appropriation of funds
for same.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 23rd day of January,1 985.
