A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA CREATING THE AD HOC
CITIZENS AGAINST CRIME AND DRUGS COMMITTEE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, combating crime and illicit drugs within the
City of Miami Beach must be among the highest priorities of the
Miami Beach City Commission; and
WHEREAS, the fight against crime and illicit drugs
trafficking is a continuous problem necessitating prompt and
definitive action; and
WHEREAS , the formation of a committee composed of
interested citizens is necessary for the development and
implementation of solutions to this crisis;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, does hereby establish the
/Ad Hoc
Citizens Against Crime and Drugs Committee, to serve in an
advisory capacity to commence forthwith to conduct meetings on a
monthly or more frequent basis and to report regularly to the City
Commission its proposals for action, and the initial committee
shall serve for a period of two years from the date of the
adoption of this resolution and thereafter , the Commission shall
appoint seven members each to serve for a term of two years. The
committee shall be comprised of the following persons:
1. The Honorable Seymour Gelber (Circuit Judge, Dade
County) ;
2. Rocky Pomerance (former City of Miami Beach Police Chief
and Founding Chairman of the New Hope Committee) ;
3 . The Honorable Howard Gross (Circuit Judge, Dade County) ;
4 . Gail Harris, (Chairperson of the Miami Beach Task Force
for Informed Families of Dade County)
5 . Dr . Richard Schwarz;
6. Rabbi Phineas Weberman; and
7 . Elayne Weisburd.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City
Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the Citizens
Against Crime and Drugs Committee is hereby authorized and
empowered as a committee of the City Commission to commence its
activities forthwith in accordance with the purposes, goals and
procedures as set forth above.
