A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA SUPPORTING
EASTERN AIRLINE'S APPLICATION FOR MIAMI-LONDON
OPERATING AUTHORITY AND URGING THE U.S .
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, AND THE
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO AWARD THIS
AUTHORITY TO EASTERN AIRLINES .
WHEREAS, Eastern Airlines seeks the award of the
Miami-London operating authority previously held by Air Florida;
and
WHEREAS, proceedings for selection of a primary and
back-up carrier for the Miami-London market had been initiated by
the Civil Aeronautics Board and an initial recommendation has been
made by an Administrative Law Judge that the authority be granted
to World Airways, with back-up authority to Eastern Airlines; and
WHEREAS, Eastern Airlines has petitioned the U.S .
Department of Transportation to overturn this recommendation; and
WHEREAS, Eastern Airlines for many years has provided
excellent service and facilities to the citizens of and visitors
to the City of Miami Beach and Florida; and
WHEREAS, Eastern Airlines has greatly contributed to the
viability of the tourist economy in Florida and particularly South
Florida.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that , the City
Commission of the City of Miami Beach supports the application of
Eastern Airlines for Miami-London operating authority and urges
the U.S . Department of Transportation and the President of the
United States to award said authority to Eastern Airlines.

February , 1985 .
