7/2103 COMMISSION MEETING SUTNICK HOUR PARKING COMPLAINT - RESPONSE
Ms. Elizabeth Donnelly stated at the July 2, 2003, Dr. Stanley Sutnick Hour that there was
an unfair monthly parking rate of $15.00 for M'I-V/atino while the rest of the public was
required to pay $1.00 per hour.
The following serves to clarify Ms. Donnelly's statements. MTV Latino was granted a
$15.00 monthly rate at Municipal Parking Lot 10A, located on Lenox Avenue and 17th
Street in 1993, as an economic development incentive. This rate was transferred to a
subsequent tenant in the same industry (media), Manhattan Transfer, until September
1996. In October 1996, Manhattan Transfer's monthly parking permit rate was increased
to the established monthly rate of $50.00 (plus sales tax). Subsequently, Manhattan
Transfer was replaced by another tenant, BVI, also in the same industry (media).
Moreover, in October 2000, the Mayor and Commission approved an increase to monthly
parking rate from $50.00 to $60.00. BVI is the current user and are paying the established
monthly parking rate of $60.00 (plus sales tax).
