A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, IN
SUPPORT OF THE MAINTENANCE OF THE FEDERAL
INVESTMENT TAX CREDITS FOR THE REHABILITATION OF
HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ACT
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO REQUEST THE
PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS MAINTAIN THE INVESTMENT TAX
CREDITS FOR REHABILITATION OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT,
WHEREAS, the preservation of historic buildings is important to the further
economic and cultural development of the City; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Architectural District is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places and is therefore a National as well as local resource; and
WHEREAS, the 25% Federal Investment Tax Credit for the rehabilitation of
contributing buildings within National Register or certified locally designated historic
districts is a vital incentive for the rehabilitation of such structures; and
WHEREAS, the 25% Federal Investment Tax Credit is stimulating significant
private investment in the Miami Beach Architectural District resulting in the revitalization
of this area; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Federal budget recommends the elimination of the
Investment Tax Credits which would have a negative impact on new investment and
revitalization in Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board has requested the City
Commission adopt a resolution in support of maintaining the Federal Investment Tax
Credits;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach is in support of the
maintenance of the 25% Investment Tax Credits for the rehabilitation of historic buildings
and authorizes the Mayor to act on behalf of the City of Miami Beach to request the
President and Congress maintain Investment Tax Credits for the rehabilitation of historic
buildings.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 1st day of May 1985.
