RESOLUTION 85-18158 RESOLUTION NO. 85-18158 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, STRONGLY URGING THE METRO DADE COUNTY COMMISSION TO ELIMINATE ANY REDUCTIONS IN BUS SERVICE AND/OR FARE INCREASES FOR MIAMI BEACH RESIDENTS AND FURTHER URGING THE COUNTY COMMISSION TO REEVALUATE EXISTING SERVICE IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE QUALITY. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: WHEREAS, the Dade County Commission has authorized the preparation of a transit service plan which will include realignment/deletion of bus routes, adjustments in hours and frequency of service, and fare increases; and WHEREAS, preliminary recommendations in said transit service plan will include reductions in service and fare increases for Miami Beach residents; and WHEREAS, adequate bus service is an absolute necessity for most elderly Miami Beach residents, since it is their sole means of transportation; and WHEREAS, Miami Beach residents, many of whom are elderly and on fixed incomes, will be negatively impacted by reductions in service and fare increases; and WHEREAS, Miami Beach helps to finance a Metrorail System which provides no service to our residents; and WHEREAS, quality of bus service must be improved rather than reduced. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: 1. The Metro Dade County Commission is strongly urged to eliminate any proposed reductions in bus service and/or fare increases for Miami Beach residents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: 1. The Metro Dade County Commission is strongly urged to reevaluate existing transit service in Miami Beach, including but not limited to maintenance of busses and hours and frequency of operation, in an effort to improve the quality of service.
