RESOLUTION 85-18191 RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA REQUESTING THE MIAMI BEACH HOUSING AUTHORITY TO RECONSIDER AND WITHDRAW ITS RESOLUTION REGARDING FINDING A HOTEL CHAIN WHICH WOULD BE INTERESTED IN CHANGING REBECCA TOWERS FROM A HAVEN FOR THE ELDERLY INTO A HOTEL AND TO SELL THE PROPERTY FOR THAT PURPOSE. WHEREAS , the Housing Authority of the City of Miami Beach, at its meeting of September 10 , 1985 , passed a resolution to retain the services of a real estate agent on a contingency basis to find "a hotel chain which would be interested in changing Rebecca Towers from a haven for the elderly into a hotel" and to sell the property for that purpose; and WHEREAS , the resolution of the Housing Authority can do nothing but create fear and apprehension of the residents thereof; and WHEREAS , the resolution of the Housing Authority places economic gains above the best interests among the residents and constituency of the Housing Authority; and WHEREAS , the Miami Beach City Commission hereby demands that Rebecca Towers remain as subsidized housing for the elderly. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission entreats the Housing Authority to reconsider its position and forthwith withdraw its resolution.
