A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY
ATTORNEY TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO COMPEL
THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE
TO EXERCISE ITS STATUTORY REGULATORY AUTHORITY
WITH RESPECT TO PROPERTY AND LIABILITY
INSURANCE RATES AND URGING ITS SISTER CITIES
TO JOIN IN THIS EFFORT.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach
is cognizant of the need to combat the exhorbitant increases in
property and liability insurance rates; and
WHEREAS, the urgency of this matter was emphasized by
Representative Barry Kutun and others on Monday, October 14, 1985
during the Dade Legislative City Commission workshop; and
WHEREAS, it is the consensus of the Commission that
immediate remedial action must be taken to resolve this problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that the City Attorney is authorized to
take appropriate legal action to compel the State of Florida,
Department of Insurance to exercise its statutory regulatory
authority with respect to property and liability insurance rates,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate steps be taken
to secure the cooperation of other municipalities so affected.
