A RESOLUTION CREATING THE MIAMI BEACH SPORTS COMMITTEE;
PROVIDING FOR ITS MEMBERSHIP; THE MODE OF APPOINTMENT;
AND ITS JURISDICTION, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES; REPEALING
RESOLUTION NO. 84-17752.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, that:
SECTION 1: That effective April 1, 1987, the existing Miami Beach
Sports Committee created by Resolution No. 84-17752 is
repealed and a new Sports Committee is created. Said Committee shall
consist of 7 members to have the qualifications, the rights, duties,
responsibilities and jurisdiction as herein set forth:
1. Said Sports Committee shall be comprised of 7 members. Each
member of the City Commission shall appoint 1 member.
2. Members shall be permanent residents and/or registered voters
of the City of Miami Beach, and 18 years or older.
3. The Committee shall have the following rights, duties,
responsibilities and jurisdiction:
The Committee shall be charged with the duty and
responsibility to act in an ADVISORY capacity to the City
Commission, City Manager and Director of Public Services in
matters pertaining to TENNIS, RACQUETBALL, HANDBALL and the
facilities thereof. Said Committee shall cooperate with
other governmental agencies and civic groups in the
advancement of tennis, racquetball, and handball planning and
programming. The Committee shall be purely advisory and
recommendatory regarding the programs, services and
facilities of said sports.
4. The Committee shall meet and organize at the earliest possible
time immediately following its formulation and shall elect a
chairperson, vice-chairperson and secretary who shall hold
office at the will of the Committee. The secretary will be
responsible for keeping minutes of meetings and maintain
records of all action of Board. Its meetings shall be held at
such times and places as shall be fixed and determined by it,
and the Committee shall comply with the provisions of
Resolution No. 84-17627 relative to attendance and submission
of the minutes of its meetings. The City Manager is hereby
directed and authorized to furnish, supply, and make available
to the Committee suitable and proper accommodations for the
transaction of the business of said Committee. The Committee
shall submit to the City Manager and the City Commission
interim reports as to the performance of its duties and
responsibilities as hereinabove set forth.
SECTION 2: That the terms of the current members shall expire on
July 25, 1987, and subsequent to July 25, 1987, all terms
shall be for one year.
