RESOLUTION 87-18849 RESOLUTION NO. 87-18849 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH OPPOSING THE REQUIREMENT THAT SENIOR CITIZENS PAY FEES IN ORDER TO ATTEND COMMUNITY SCHOOL CLASSES. WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education has directed Dade County to begin charging fees to senior citizens for attending community school classes; and WHEREAS , free community school classes have provided senior citizens with needed entertainment, opportunities to socialize and stimulation as well as education; and WHEREAS , many senior citizens are living on a limited fixed income and will be deprived of the opportunity to attend classes by the requirement of fees; and WHEREAS , the fee requirement for senior citizens will result in an unfortunate loss to all Dade communities in that many community school classes will be discontinued due to insufficient enrollment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission opposes the requirement that senior citizens pay fees in order to attend community school classes.
