RESOLUTION 87-18885 RESOLUTION NO. 87-18885 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO AUTHORIZE APPLICATION TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES' EROSION CONTROL PROGRAM FOR GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $48,750 TO BE MATCHED BY A $16,250 LOCAL CONTRIBUTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN THE BEACHFRONT PARK AND PROMENADE BETWEEN 21ST STREET AND 46TH STREET. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT, WHEREAS, the State of Florida, Department of Natural Resources' Erosion Control Program provides funding for erosion control/beach preservation projects; WHEREAS, an irrigation system will improve conditions for plant growth resulting in improved dune stabilization; WHEREAS, Metropolitan Dade County will perform all work associated with the project as part of its Phase II Beach Vegetation Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that the City Manager is authorized to make application for grant funds in the amount of $48,750 from the State of Florida, Department of Natural Resources' Erosion Control Program for the purchase and installation of an irrigation system in the Beachfront Park and Promenade, 21st Street through 46th Street to be matched by a local contribution of $16,250. Park %r/I�1 ` City Manager IF "Imp SUBJECT: APPLICATIO OR EROSION CONTROL PROGRAM GRANT FUNDS FOR AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN BEACHFRONT PARK AND PROMENADE REQUEST The Administration requests the City Commission authorize an application to the Florida Department of Natural Resources for grant monies in the amount of $48,750 (75%) which will be matched with $16,250 (25%) of local funds from the Interest Earnings from Bond Fund 11351 - Reallocation of Bond Funds. The total project will result in the purchase and installation of an irrigation system in the Beachfront Park and Promenade (21st Street through 46th Street). PROJECT DESCRIPTION The irrigation system will be design and installed by Metropolitan Dade County, Department of Environmental Resources Management under their Phase II Beach Vegetation Project. It is expected that the irrigatoin system will substantially improve the plant growth in the Park, resulting in improvement in dune stabilization and aesthetic appearance. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION The Administration recommends the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing an application to the Department of Natural Resources, Erosion Control Program Grant Funds in the amount of $58,750 to be matched with a $16,250 local contribution.
