RESOLUTION 87-18886 RESOLUTION NO. 87-18886 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATION OF $170,000 FROM BOND FUND NO. 322 TO A WORK ORDER FOR RESURFACING AND RESCREENING OF 25 NEIGHBORHOOD TENNIS COURTS; RECONSTRUCT FOUR (4) HARD SURFACE TO CLAY COURTS AT FLAMINGO PARK TENNIS CENTER AND REPLACE GLASS IN TENNIS STADIUM WHEREAS, The City of Miami Beach is desirous of providing the following items: resurfacing and rescreening of 25 Neighborhood Tennis Courts; reconstruct four (4) hard surface to clay courts at Flamingo Park Tennis Center, and replace tempered glass in Tennis Stadium. WHEREAS, the Rolex-Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship Tournament Directors had requested the City of Miami Beach to reconstruct the existing four (4) hard surface courts to clay courts and replace the scratched Plexiglas with tempered glass in the Abel Holtz Tennis Stadium. WHEREAS, the Sports Committee has made a recommendation to repair, resurface and rescreen the 25 Neighborhood Tennis Courts throughout the City. WHEREAS, it is estimated that these items will require an expenditure of approximately $170,000. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach Commission appropriate $170,000 from Bond Fund No. 322 to a newly established Work Order. Parkins City Manager SUBJECT: APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS FROM O BOND FUND NO. 322 (1972 SERIES 4A PARK IMPROVEMENTS) FOR RESURFACING AND RESCREENING OF NEIGHBORHOOD TENNIS COURTS, RECONSTRUCTION OF FOUR (4) HARD SURFACE COURTS TO CLAY AT FLAMINGO PARK TENNIS CENTER, AND REPLACE GLASS IN TENNIS STADIUM The Rolex-Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship Tournament Directors had made a formal request to upgrade the Flamingo Park Tennis Center. In their request was to replace the four (4) hard-surface courts with four (4) clay courts; replace the scratched plexiglas in the Abel Holtz Tennis Stadium with tempered glass, and upgrade the locker room facilities at the Stadium. The upgrading of the locker room facilities is requested in the Capital Improvement Program. The estimated cost for replacing the courts, including lighting, is $85,000. Cost for replacing the glass is $1,500. The Sports Committee has recommended, after a survey was conducted, to repair, replace and rescreen the 25 neighborhood tennis courts throughout the City at an estimated cost of $83,000. Funds are to be appropriated from Fund 322 (1972 Series 4-A, Park Improvements). ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends that the Commission approve the Resolution appropriating funds in the amount of $170,000 for the above projects from Bond Fund 322 to a Work Order.
