A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RENAMING THE
MIAMI BEACH THEATER OF THE PERFORMING ARTS
THE JACKIE GLEASON THEATER OF THE PERFORMING
ARTS.
WHEREAS , the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach
would like to repay Jackie Gleason in some significant way for
all he has done for Miami Beach, the "Sun and Fun Capital of the
World" ; and
WHEREAS , Jackie Gleason was a tremendous talent , an
accomplished actor , entertainer , musician, writer , and conductor
with a tremendous intellect and a thirst for knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Jackie Gleason came to Miami Beach and through his
efforts brought Miami Beach to the forefront as a tourist mecca;
and
WHEREAS, the establishment of the Jackie Gleason Theater of
the Performing Arts will be an appropriate honor in that the
entertainment disciplines will be continuously performed there in
future years.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, to rename the Miami Beach Theater
of the Performing Arts the Jackie Gleason Theater of the
Performing Arts .
PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of July , 1987 .
