This DRB application (DRB19-0398) includes the removal of an architectural spire/monument feature, and is scheduled to be reviewed by the DRB on July 2, 2019. The HPB approved a motion (5-0, 2 absent) opposing the demolition of the spire/monument. Additionally, the Board recommended that the DRB continue the application in order to explore ways in which the spire/monument could be retained and incorporated into any new proposed development for the site, in a manner consistent with the adopted North Beach Master Plan. Designed by architect A. Herbert Mathes, the spire was constructed in 1966 as signage pylon for the Miami Beach Federal Savings & Loan building located at 301-317 71st Street.
