RESOLUTION 88-19141 RESOLUTION NO. 88-19141 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT INCREASE THE STRENGTH OF THE COAST GUARD IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND NOT DECREASE IT, IN KEEPING WITH FEDERAL COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES IN COMBATTING THE IMPORTATION OF ILLEGAL DRUGS INTO THE UNITED STATES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is a municipal corporation organized to promote the well-being of the community, and to provide professional and efficient law enforcement services therein; and WHEREAS, the announcement by the United States Government that the strength level of the United States Coast Guard in South Florida is being reduced has caused great concern. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the interdiction efforts of the United States Coast Guard are an essential component of the overall war against illegal drugs; that a reduction in strength of the Coast Guard in South Florida will have a negative effect on law enforcement in South Florida and will have a harmful effect on the citizens of Miami Beach and Dade County and of the United States as a whole; and that the United States Government should increase the strength of the Coast Guard in South Florida, rather than decrease it, in keeping with the federal commitment to support state and local agencies in combatting the importation of illegal drugs into the United States.
