A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING APRIL 2 THROUGH
APRIL 9, 1988, AS "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
WEEK" IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, National legislation has already been enacted proclaiming April 2
through April 9, 1988, as "National Community Development Week"; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of "National Community Development Week" is to
celebrate the success of the Community Development Block Grant program and its
many accomplishments and benefits; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been a recipient of Community
Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development for the past thirteen (13) years; and
WHEREAS, in the thirteen (13) years the City has participated in the Community
Development Block Grant program, the City has received 25.5 million dollars in grant
funds; and
WHEREAS, the Community Development program has provided a multitude of
essential services and activities in Miami Beach such as: upgrading the existing housing
stock; the removal of unsafe structures; construction and/or improvement to public
facilities; park and recreation improvements; economic development activities and
projects which create and/or retain jobs and expand our economic tax base; the
removal of architectural barriers; and numerous public services; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach could not have provided these services and
activities to our residents without these community development funds; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that the Community Development Block Grant
program continue to be re-authorized by the legislature; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby
authorized to designate the week of April 2 through April 9, 1988, as "Community
Development Week" in the City of Miami Beach, and to urge the legislature to
continue to re-authorize the Community Development Block Grant program.

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 2ND THROUGH APRIL 9TH 1988
AS "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK" IN THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH
April 2-9, 1988, is National Community Development Week. The purpose
of this week is to celebrate the success of the Community Development
Program on a nationwide basis, as a prelude to securing the re-
authorization of the Community Development Block Grant program for a
one to three year period.
Dade County and the cities of Miami Beach, Hialeah and Miami are
coordinating a countywide effort to celebrate National Community
Development Week.
As a part of these efforts, municipalities have been asked to adopt a
resolution proclaiming "National Community Development Week".
Therefore, a Resolution is attached for your approval at the April 6th City
Commission meeting.
This Resolution proclaims "National Community Development Week" in the
City of Miami Beach, and highlights the accomplishments and benefits of
the CDBG program to our City, and encourages the Legislature to continue
to re-authorize the CDBG program.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:.
The Administration recommends that the City Commission adopt the
attached Resolution proclaiming April 2 through 9, 1988, as "National
Community Development Week" in the City of Miami Beach.
