RESOLUTION 88-19228 RESOLUTION NO. 88-19228 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE ARABIAN HORSE DESERT CLASSIC OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach was contacted in September of 1987 by Mr. David Wallack and Mr. William Kraft with a proposal for the Arabian Horse Desert Classic to be held on the beach in the Lummus Park area during November of 1988; and WHEREAS, the Desert Classic's main events consist of a 26-mile, Diamond Cup Marathon, a 5Y2 furlong, Emerald Cup Desert Dash and a Ruby Cup Costume Event; and, WHEREAS, including qualifying races, the Arabian Horse Desert Classic will consist of ten full days of racing and activities showcasing Miami Beach and its Art Deco area; and, WHEREAS, the event will be promoted both nationally and internationally and is expected to generate a significant economic impact to the tourism industry in the South Florida area, and in particular to Miami Beach; and, WHEREAS, theCity of Miami Beach Commission recognizes the benefits, both economic and promotional, that can be achieved by the community from an event such as the Arabian Horse Desert Classic. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach Commission welcomes the Arabian Horse Desert Classic to its shores and is in full support of the Arabian Horse Desert Classic being held on Miami Beach in the Lummus Park area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach Commission urges the Cabinet of the State of Florida to approve the permitting for the Arabian Horse Desert Classic.
