A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA URGING THE STATE
OF FLORIDA TOURISM DIVISION TO CONTRIBUTE
$500, 000 TO THE GREATER MIAMI HOST COMMITTEE
FOR THE COORDINATION OF THE ASTA CONVENTION
TO BE HELD IN DADE COUNTY/SOUTH FLORIDA,
OCTOBER 22-27, 1989.
WHEREAS, the ASTA Convention scheduled to be held in Dade
County/South Florida, October 22-27 , 1989, is the largest
Professional Travel and Trade Association in the World with
approximately 23 , 000 National and International members with over
128 countries represented; and
WHEREAS, the G.M.H.C. will distribute State Funding for
audio visual requirements, security requirements, receptions,
Florida tours and transportation; and
WHEREAS, the ASTA World Travel Congress is the most
important annual meeting of the World Travel Industry with an
expected attendance of between 7, 000 to 10, 000 travel officials
generating 15 to 20 million dollars in expenditures; and
WHEREAS, the opening ceremonies from throughout the State of
Florida will be presented in an audio-visual presentation; and
WHEREAS, the benefit of holding the ASTA World Travel
Congress in South Florida is twofold resulting in the immediate
financial impact of the meeting of the Congress, and the impact
of the travel agents returning home with favorable reactions to
the Dade County area, recommending South Florida as a vacation
travel destination throughout the World.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the State of Florida Tourism
Division is urged to contribute $500, 000 to the Greater Miami
Host Committee to be used for the coordination of the ASTA
convention for the reasons hereinabove set forth.
