A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE ARABIAN HORSE
DESERT CLASSIC OF MIAMI BEACH TO BE HELD IN
NOVEMBER 1989
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach was contacted in September of 1987 by Mr. David
Wallack and Mr. William Kraft with a proposal for the Arabian Horse Desert Classic to be
held on the beach in the Lummus Park area during November of 1988; and
WHEREAS, due to the delay in the State permitting process, the Arabian Horse Desert
Classic must be delayed until November 1989; and,
WHEREAS, the scheduled dates for the Desert Classic are as follows: Start of site
construction - November 6, 1989; Event begins - November 11, 1989, Event ends -
November 19, 1989; Fencing down - November 20, 1989; Clean-up complete - November 21,
1989; and,
WHEREAS, the promoters have made arrangements for public access to the beach
through the use of trams; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Commission recognizes the benefits, both
economic and promotional, that can be achieved by the community from an event such as
the Arabian Horse Desert Classic.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach Commission welcomes the Arabian
Horse Desert Classic to its shores and is in full support of the Arabian Horse Desert Classic
being held on Miami Beach in the Lummus Park area during the month of November 1989.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach Commission urges the Cabinet of the
State of Florida to approve the permitting for the Arabian Horse Desert Classic.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of June 1988.

Dear Carla :
Please reserve time on the City Commission agenda for the meeting
of June 15 , 1988 for the Arabian Horse Desert Classic to be heard .
We request the City Commission to vote on the following two issues :
1 . Change of event dates to October 23 , 1989 to November 16 ,
1989 with actual race dates to be November 2-12 , 1989 .
2 . That the City of Miami Beach Commission form a delegation
of at least 3 Commissioners , City Manager , Chamber of
Commerce and Dade County Commissioners , if possible , go
to Tallahassee and speak personally to the State Cabinet
officials , primarily Attorney General Bob Butterworth and
Secretary of State Jim Smith , as well as to be present
at the Cabinet meeting of June 28 , 1988 to impress. the
Cabinet that this is not strictly a "private" venture , but
is in reality a "quasi-public venture" as both the City
and State are participating in income revenue and that the
beaches are for tourism and promotion of the City and State
and that this event would be the best advocate of such
promotion.
