A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH URGING THE
FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES, INC. TO
NOMINATE VALERIE HICKEY-PATTON AS THE
RECIPIENT FOR THE 1988 "E. HARRIS DREW
AWARD. "
WHEREAS, Valerie Hickey-Patton has served the City of West
Miami as Commissioner and Vice Mayor continuously from 1970 and
she will have served in excess of twenty years as a member of the
City Commission of West Miami at the termination of her present
term of office in 1990, and
WHEREAS, she has performed in an outstanding manner for the
City of West Miami, not only as a Commissioner, but in many civic
activities, and
WHEREAS, she has served in the following capacities and on
numerous other community committees and projects:
Past President of The Dade County League
of Cities, Inc. and served in all offices
of the League and is presently a Director
of the League;
Chairman of the Florida Citi -,ens
Committee for Education;
Past President of Women in Government;
Co-Chairman of Stop Crime Committee;
Member of the Dade County Advisory Task
Force;
Member of the Dade Partners for Youth;
Elected first woman Mayor of West Miami
1984-1986;
Vice Mayor of West Miami 1986-1988 ;
Appointed to the National Human Resource
Committee on Immigration; and
WHEREAS, Valerie Hickey-Patton, who has served her community
and the Board of Directors in such an outstanding manner in
excess of twenty years, be designated as the recipient of the
Florida' s Municipal Official of the Year "E. Harris Drew Award. "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH:

Section 1. That it is a privilege and honor to
recommend one of Dade COunty ' s
outstanding municipal officials to the
Florida League of Cities, Inc. and its
appropriate officials, Valerie Hickey-
Patton, to be nominated as the recipient
for the 1988 Florida ' s Municipal
Official of the Year "E. Harris Drew
Award. "
Section 2 . That a copy of this resolution be sent
to the Honorable Ray Sittig, Executive
Director of the Florida League of
Cities , Inc . and to the Honorable
Valerie Hickey-Patton of the City of
West Miami, Florida.
