A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE OCEAN DRIVE
ASSOCIATION'S REQUEST FOR A CONTRIBUTION, IN THE AMOUNT
OF $15,000.00, TO FUND THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY IN LUMMUS
PARK FOR THE ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION, AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO ALLOCATE
$15,000.00 IN FURTHERANCE OF AND CONSISTENT WITH THE
PURPOSE OF THE AFORESTATED EVENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach (the "City") 4th of July celebration includes an •
annual tradition of a fireworks display over Lummus Park sponsored by the Ocean Drive
Association ("ODA") in partnership with the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, this year, the budget for the 4th of July event exceeds $55,000 as the ODA
is adding family-friendly activities in Lummus Park including the Miami Classical Music Festival
orchestra, which will perform during the fireworks display, Stilt Walkers with the American Flag,
and other activities; and
WHEREAS, in addition, to expand the 4th of July celebration into a full weekend of
festivities, on Friday, July 5th, the celebration will continue with a Red White and Blues
performance with Rachel Coba's Blues Band; and
WHEREAS, as such, the ODA is requesting that the City once again partner with the
ODA to sponsor the fireworks display in Lummus Park by providing a contribution, in the total
amount of$15,000 to offset the costs (see Exhibit A); and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has an overwhelming appeal to the tourists as a
favorite vacation destination and the City's contribution of $15,000.00 is necessary to assure
that the 4th of July celebration and the fireworks display are of a high caliber.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve the Ocean Drive Association's request for a contribution, in the
amount of $15,000.00, to fund the fireworks display in Lummus Park for the annual 4th of July
celebration, and authorizing the City Administration to allocate $15,000.00 in furtherance of and
consistent with the purpose of the aforestated event.
