RESOLUTION 89-19514 RESOLUTION NO. 89-19514 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND THE CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A WRITTEN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AND THE CITY OF MIAMI FOR MUTUAL SUPPORT IN INCREASING PERFORMING ARTS CENTERS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE COMMUNITIES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami and the City of Miami Beach agree that there is a need for first-class performing arts facilities within the Metropolitan Dade County area; and WHEREAS, it is to the mutual benefit of the City of Miami and the City of Miami Beach to create a common agenda for the aforementioned venues for the purpose of attracting private and public funding; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami acknowledges that the City of Miami Beach has, within the vicinity of the Stephen Muss Convention Center and the Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts, adequate land to provide for a symphony hall and that certain private-sector funds have been pledged for the purpose of constructing such a symphony hall, and the City of Miami agrees to support this effort; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach acknowledges that the City of Miami has, within the vicinity of the downtown Biscayne Boulevard corridor, adequate land to provide for a first-class opera hall with a site to be determined, and that Gusman Hall provides an excellent forum for cultural activities and is in need of expansion and improvement, and the City of Miami Beach agrees to support this effort; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami and the City of Miami Beach mutually agree to support the efforts of Miami-Dade Community College to provide for a drama-dance theater with a site to be determined; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami and the City of Miami Beach recognize that Dade County Auditorium requires renovation and support the renovation of this facility for the interim use of the Greater Miami Opera; and 1 WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Miami Beach to enter into a written agreement for the above-stated purposes, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that it hereby authorizes the execution of an Agreement between the City of Miami Beach and the City of Miami for mutual support in increasing performing arts centers in their communities. Upon the approval by the respective government bodies of the Cityof Miami and the Cityof Miami Beach, all parties � agree towork jointly for the purpose of attracting private, State, and Federal dollars in order to achieve the foregoing.
