A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING
MARCH 24 THROUGH MARCH 31, 1989, AS "NATIONAL
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK" IN THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, National legislation has already been enacted proclaiming
March 24 through March 31, 1989 , as "National Community Development
Week" ; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of "National Community Development Week" is
to celebrate the success of the Community Development Block Grant
program and its many accomplishments and benefits; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been a recipient of Community
Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development for the past fourteen (14) years; and
WHEREAS, in the fourteen (14) years the City has participated in
the Community Development Block Grant program, the City has received
27 . 3 million dollars in grant funds; and
WHEREAS, the Community Development program has provided a multitude
of essential services and activities in Miami Beach such as; upgrading
the existing housing stock, removal of unsafe structures, construction
and/or improvement to public facilities, park and recreation
improvements, economic development activities, removal of architectural
barriers and numerous public services; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach could not have provided these
services and activities to our residents without these community
development funds; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that the Community Development program be
continued, and legislation be adopted which re-authorizes funding for
the Community Development Block Grant program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby
authorized to designate the week of March 24 through March 31, 1989, as
"Community Development Week" in the City of Miami Beach, and to urge the
legislature to re-authorize the Community Development Block Grant
program.
