A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING
APRIL 1989 AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH IN THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, the strength of our nation, and all its states and cities,
flows from the promise of individual equality and freedom of choice; and
WHEREAS,the Twenty-first Anniversary of the National Fair Housing
Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, during the month of
April, is an occasion for all Americans-individually and collectively-
to rededicate themselves to the principle of freedom of choice and to
participate in efforts to eliminate vestiges of housing discrimination
wherever they exist. This law guarantees for each citizen that
critical, personal element of freedom of choice - selection of the home;
and
WHEREAS, fair housing is the policy of the City of Miami Beach.
Implementation of that policy requires the positive commitment,
involvement and support of each one of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, the departments and agencies of the City of Miami Beach
are to provide leadership in the effort to make fair housing not just
an idea but an ideal for all our citizens; and
WHEREAS, barriers that diminish the rights and limit the options
of any citizen will ultimately diminish the rights and limit the options
of all,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that April 1989 is hereby proclaimed as
Fair Housing Month, and the City Commission asks that the people of this
City join in reaffirming the obligation and commitment to fair housing
opportunities for all.

UBJ MONTH IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
As you may be aware, each April the U. S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development commemorates the signing of the Federal Fair
Housing Law (April 11, 1968) with special "Fair Housing Month"
celebration activities. AS a recipient of federal funds, we are
responsible for assuring a commitment to fair housing practices in
the City of Miami Beach. In accordance with these commitments, the
accompanying resolution establishes April 1989 as "Fair Housing
Month" in the City of Miami Beach, thus reaffirming the City' s
effort and commitment to fair housing opportunities for all.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends approval of the attached resolution
establishing April 1989 as "Fair Housing Month. "

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING APRIL 1989 AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH
As a recipient of federal funds, we are responsible for assuring
a commitment to fair housing practices. In accordance with these
commitments, the City of Miami Beach, each year, commemorates the
signing of the Federal Fair Housing Law by establishing April as
"Fair Housing Month. "
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution establishing April 1989 as "Fair Housing
Month. "
