RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE
APPLICATION FOR THE CONTINUED FUNDING OF A
GRANT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF
HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES FOR THE
RETARDATION PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION
OF THE CONTRACT FOR THE FINAL GRANT AMOUNT.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
WHEREAS: the State of Florida, Department of Health and
Rehabilitative Services (HRS) is desirous of having the City of
Miami Beach apply for continued funding to provide developmental
training and transportation services for mentally retarded adults;
and,
WHEREAS: the City of Miami Beach is desirous of
submitting an application for continued funding, in order to
provide these essential services to mentally retarded adults in the
amount of $222,142 from October 1989 to September 1990; and,
WHEREAS: the final grant amount will be negotiated
between the City of Miami Beach and the State of Florida Department
of HRS.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the final grant offered
from the State of Florida, Department of Health and Rehabilitative
Services (HRS) be accepted; and that the Mayor and the City Clerk
be authorized and directed to execute the contract to provide
developmental training and transportation services for up to 40
mentally retarded adults at the Miami Beach Activity Center.

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF

AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF THE CONTRACT FOR THE FINAL
GRANT AMOUNT.
BACKGROUND
The attached Resolution requests Commission approval to apply to
and enter into negotiations, with the State of Florida, Department
of Health and Rehabilitative Services, for the provision of
continued funding of the Retardation Program at the Miami Beach
Activity Center.
The application submitted for approval totals $222 , 142 for the
Fiscal Year 1989/1990 and requests the Health and Rehabilitative
Services to provide funding for services to assist up to forty (40)
retarded adults. This action will maintain the current level of
service. The Miami Beach Activity Center now serves forty-one (41)
retarded adults at 8128 Collins Avenue, thirty-five (3 5) of whom
are funded through the HRS grant.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends approval of the resolution. The
Administration also requests permission to make necessary
adjustments to the narrative and/or budget, including technical
corrections, which may be identified during the review and
negotiation process, and which do not significantly alter the
provision, services, or intent of the program.
