RESOLUTION 89-19652 RESOLUTION NO. 89-19652 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING OIL EXPLORATION AND DRILLING OFF THE COAST OF FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the Miami Beach City Commission is aware of a proposed Federal plan to sell leases on 14 , 000 acres of submerged land for oil exploration and drilling off Florida ' s southwest coast; and WHEREAS, the Miami Beach City Commission believes that off- shore exploration and drilling could result in oil spills which would damage or destroy Florida' s coastal mangrove area and poison manatees, fish, birds and the nation' s only living coral reefs; and WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that such damage resulting from oil spills would be catastrophic to the aquatic environment of Miami Beach and other cities along Florida' s coasts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission opposes the proposed oil exploration and drilling off the coast of Florida.
