SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA CONSIDERING THE
AMENDMENT OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH YEAR 2000
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO INCORPORATE THE SAFE
NEIGHBORHOOD PLANS FOR NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT
DISTRICTS NO. 1 AND 2 .
BACKGROUND
In accordance with the City' s contractual agreement with the State
of Florida Department of Community Affairs, City staff has
prepared Safe Neighborhood Plans for Districts Nos. 1 and 2 . Two
public hearings have been held before the City Commission to
recieve public comment regarding the elements of these Plans and
they have been reviewed by the City' s Planning and Zoning
Department and found to be consistent with the goals and objectives
of the City' s Year 2000 Comprehensive Plan.
The City Commission should now consider amending the Comprehensive
Plan to include the Safe Neighborhood Plans. This amendment is not
necessary nor is it advised by the State Department of Community
Affairs in order to fulfill contractual obligations. Since the
Safe Neighborhood Plans are very specific and an amendment at this
time would restrict the City to only one other amendment in the
Plan during the year, it is recommended that the Comprehensive Plan
not be amended at this time.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The City Administration recommends that the Year 2000 Comprehensive
Plan not be amended to include the Safe Neighborhood Plans for
Districts No. 1 and No. 2 .
