A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF LEASE
AGREEMENT WITH INTERNATIONAL ARTIST SERIES,
INC. FOR THE USE OF THE JACKIE GLEASON THEATER
OF THE PERFORMING ARTS DECEMBER. 7-10 , 1989 ,
FEBRUARY 4 , 1990, MARCH 10 , 1990 , MARCH 30 ,
1990 AND APRIL 14 , 1990 .
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, has been advised that
INTERNATIONAL ARTIST SERIES, INC.
desires to lease certain premises and facilities of the City of
Miami Beach, to-wit :
JACKIE GLEASON THEATER OF THE PERFORMING ARTS
on
DECEMBER 7-10 , 1989
for the event known as
NUTCRACKER BALLET
FEBRUARY 4, 1990
for the event known as
VIENNA CHOIR BOYS
MARCH 10 , 1990
for the event known as
WARSAW BALLET
MARCH 30 , 1990
for the event known as
BALLET GALA WITH RUDOLPH NUREYEV
APRIL 14 , 1990
for the event known as
CARLOS MONTOYA FLAMENCO GUITARIST
AND WHEREAS, an appropriate lease agreement has been prepared
by the Miami Beach Convention Center Director and approved as to
form by the City Attorney, and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has been advised of and is
familiar with the terms and provisions of the said lease agreement
and deems it to be in the best interest of the City to authorize
the execution of the said lease agreement .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and the City Clerk be
and they are hereby authorized and directed to execute the above-
described lease agreement on behalf of the City, and that the Miami
Beach Convention Center Director be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to carry into effect the terms and provisions undertaken
therein by the City.

SUBJECT: JACKIE GLEASON THEATER OF THE PERFORMING ARTS -
MR. ROBERT OWENS, PRESIDENT, INTERNATIONAL
ARTISTS SERIES, INC. 1989-1990 CONTRACT -
TICKETMASTER OF FLORIDA, INC.
On Saturday, December 23 , 1989, a meeting was held among
Commissioner Abe Hirschfeld, Mr. Robert Owens, President of
International Artists Series, Inc. and Norman Litz , Director of the
Miami Beach Convention Center.
Mr. Litz informed Mr. Owens that Ticketmaster of Florida, Inc. has
an exclusive contract with the City of Miami Beach. Ticketmaster
of Florida, Inc. has the exclusive rights to print theater tickets,
distribute tickets to promoter, print all complementary and press
tickets, sell tickets, etc.
Mr. Litz advised Mr. Owens that if he wishes to sell tickets from
his office, he could do so by ordering the tickets from
Ticketmaster and charging them out. In the past, Mr. Owens printed
his own tickets, instead of going through Ticketmaster; there was
no accountability for tickets sold. Mr. Owens agreed to utilize
Ticketmaster of Florida, Inc. for all of his ticketing
requirements; he agreed to inform Ticketmaster of his requirements
and further agreed that he will not print his own tickets.
Therefore, based on the above agreement, it is recommended that the
City' s contract with International Artists Series, Inc. be
approved.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
Approve International Artists Series, Inc. contract for 1989-1990
series at the Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts.
