A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF LEASE
AGREEMENT WITH GIRL SCOUTS OF THE U.S.A. FOR THE
USE OF HALLS C AND D IN THE MIAMI BEACH CONVENTION
CENTER OCTOBER 17-24, 1990.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, has been advised that
GIRL SCOUTS OF THE U.S.A.
desires to lease certain premises and facilities of the City of
Miami Beach, to-wit:
HALLS C AND D IN THE MIAMI BEACH CONVENTION CENTER
on
OCTOBER 17-24 , 1990
for the event known as
1990 TRIENNIAL NATIONAL CONVENTION
AND WHEREAS, an appropriate lease agreement has been prepared
by the Miami Beach Convention Center Director and approved as to
form by the City Attorney, and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has been advised of and is familiar
with the terms and provisions of the said lease agreement and deems
it to be in the best interest of the City to authorize the
execution of the said lease agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and the City Clerk be
and they are hereby authorized and directed to execute the above-
described lease agreement on behalf of the City, and that the Miami
Beach Convention Center Director be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to carry into effect the terms and provisions undertaken
therein by the City.

SUBJECT: REQUEST FROM THE GIRL SCOUTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
FOR REDUCED RENTAL RATE FOR USE OF CONVENTION CENTER IN 1990
At the July Convention Center Advisory Board meeting, the
members discussed a request from the Girl Scouts of the
United States of America for a reduced rental rate for use
of Convention Center for their October 1990 convention.
The Convention Center administration projected the approximate
costs for the event in 1990 in the amount of $30,000. The
Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau has agreed to pay
one-third of the operational costs (per attachment) , and the
extremely budget conscious Girl Scouts have agreed to pay one-
third, bringing the Convention Center's share to one-third.
The Miami Beach Convention Certer is making every effort to
recapture its position in the highly-'competitive marketplace.
This would be the first time this prestigious convention will
have met in this area.
Motion was made, seconded and voted unanimously by the Advisory
Board to recommend to the City Commission that request from the
Girl Scouts of the United States of America for a reduced rental
rate for use of Convention Center in October 1990 be granted;
further, the Board recommends that the Convention Center absorb
one-third of operational costs in an effort to secure this
outstanding new event for Miami Beach.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: Approve Board's recommendation
that Convention Center absorb up to one-third of the operational
costs in order to secure the 1990 Girl Scouts convention.

1990 - I will authorize that commitment with a cap of $ 10 , 000 ,
so we may move forward on what we hope will be a successful
bid for this business .

($10,000.00) Dollars flat rate per Commission Memorandum #4858-86
dated July 23, 1986, plus Florida State Rental Tax which is currently
6%.
Four Thousand and no/100 ($4,000.00) Dollars payable upon signing
of contract, receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged; Six Thousand
and no/100 ($6,000. 00) Dollars payable by August 1 7, 1990; balance ,
if any, plus Florida State Rental Tax, payable by October 30, 1990.
