RESOLUTION 90-19920 RESOLUTION NO. 90-19920
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE
PARENT CORPORATION OF BURDINE' S DEPARTMENT
STORE TO RETAIN ITS STORE WITHIN THE CITY AND
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORM A COMMITTEE
TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO KEEP THE MIAMI
BEACH BURDINE'S DEPARTMENT STORE OPEN.
WHEREAS, The City Commission of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida recognizes that Burdine' s is a mainstay of Lincoln Road and
of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, there is concern that the parent corporation of
Burdine' s is experiencing financial difficulty and may consider
closing the Miami Beach Burdine' s store; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that a committee of
volunteer citizens interested in retaining the store will greatly
increase the potential for success of the effort to keep the store
open; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that keeping Burdine' s
open on Miami Beach is in the best interests of the citizens of the
City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission hereby
urges the parent corporation of Burdine' s Department Store to
retain its store within the City, and directs the City Manager to
form a committee of citizens to take all necessary steps to keep
the Miami Beach Burdine' s Department Store open.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of February, 1990.
