A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING
APRIL 7 THROUGH APRIL 14, 1990, AS "COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT WEEK" IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, the week of April 7-14 , 1990 has been designated as National
Community Development Week; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is a participant in the Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) program which funds a myriad of social
service, economic development and housing programs in this community; and
WHEREAS, in this community and in communities throughout the nation,
sixteen years of CDBG program funding has developed a strong working network
of relationships between this local government, residents of community
development target neighborhoods and the many non -profit agencies which
provide services and help make possible our commitment to these
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, this community recognizes that the CDBG program is a
partnership of federal, local government, non-profit and community efforts;
and that the services funded by the federal CDBG program, administered by the
local government and often delivered by local non -profit organizations,
relies heavily on the dedication and goodwill of our combined efforts;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that during National Community Development
Week ' 90, this community will give special thanks and recognition to all
participants whose hard work and devotion to the neighborhoods and their low
and moderate income residents help insure the quality and effectiveness of
the CDBG program; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this community, along with the service
providers and others whose names are appended to this resolution, hereby
petition the U.S. Congress and Administration to recognize the outstanding
work being done locally and nationally by the CDBG program, its vital
importance to the community and to the people who live in its lower income
neighborhoods; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be conveyed to
the appropriate elected and appointed officials in the federal government and
that this community' s name, the names of its non-profit service providers and
the names of its residents, be added to the roll of those committed to the
preservation and full funding of the Community Development Block Grant and
maintenance of its essential features over the course of the next Congress.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
to designate the week of April 7 through April 14 , 1990, as "Community
Development Week" in the City of Miami Beach, and to urge the legislature to
preserve and fully fund the Community Development Block Grant program.

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 7 THROUGH APRIL
14, 1990 AS !'COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK' IN
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
April 7-14 , 1990 is "National Community Development Week. " The
purpose of this week is to celebrate the success of community
development programs on a nationwide basis, as a prelude to
securing the re-authorization of the Community Development Block
Grant program.
Dade County and the Cities of Miami, Hialeah and Miami Beach are
coordinating a county-wide effort to celebrate this week. As part
of these efforts, municipalities have been asked to adopt
resolutions illustrating the accomplishments and benefits of the
CDBG program and proclaiming "Community Development Week. "
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends adopting the attached Resolution
proclaiming April 7-14 , 1990, as "Community Development Week" in
the City of Miami Beach.
