A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE
LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO MAKE
FUNDS AVAILABLE TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO EFFECTUATE
IMMEDIATE REPAIRS TO THE MACARTHUR CAUSEWAY,
AND PARTICULARLY TO HEIGHTEN THE SPAN OF THE
BRIDGE BETWEEN THE MAINLAND AND WATSON ISLAND.
WHEREAS, the MacArthur Causeway between Miami and Miami Beach
is the gateway to Miami Beach and, as such, tourists and residents
alike are given their first impression of Miami Beach from the
MacArthur Causeway; and
WHEREAS, the MacArthur Causeway is in dire need of
reconstruction; and
WHEREAS, the repeated raising of the bridge due to increasing
boat traffic is causing great inconvenience to the motorists
commuting between Miami and Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach wishes
to express its concern to the Legislature of the State of Florida
regarding the very poor condition of the MacArthur Causeway, and
wishes to request the Legislature of the State of Florida to take
immediate action to solve this problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission hereby
requests the State of Florida to make funds available to the State
of Florida Department of Transportation to effectuate immediate
repairs to the MacArthur Causeway, and particularly to heighten the
span of the bridge between the mainland and Watson Island.
