RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR CONTINUED FUNDING
OF A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA,
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE
SERVICES, FOR THE RETARDATION PROGRAM.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
WHEREAS: the State of Florida, Department of Health and
Rehabilitative Services (HvS) , s des,desirous of having the City of

Miami Beach apply for continued funding to provide developmental
training and transportation services for mentally retarded adults;
and,
WHEREAS: the City of Miami Beach is desirous of
submitting an application for continued funding, in order to
provide these essential services to mentally retarded adults in the
estimated amount of $222 , 142 from October 1990 to September 1991;
and,
WHEREAS: the final grant amount will be negotiated
between the City of Miami Beach and the State of Florida Department
of HRS, in late July or early August; and,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the final grant offered
from the State of Florida, Department of Health and Rehabilitative
Services (HRS) be accepted to provide developmental training and
transportation services for up to 40 mentally retarded adults at
the Miami Beach Activity Center.

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR CONTINUED FUNDING
OF A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA,
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE
SERVICES, FOR THE RETARDATION PROGRAM.
BACKGROUND
The attached Resolution requests Commission approval to apply to,
and enter into negotiations with, the State of Florida - Department
of Health and Rehabilitative Services (HRS) , for the provision of
continued funding of the Retardation Program at the Miami Beach
Activity Center. It is anticipated that negotiations with the City
will commence by the end of July, depending on the Department of
Health and Rehabilitative Service' s schedule.
The application will be compiled and submitted for an estimated
amount of $222 , 142 for the Fiscal Year 1990/1991, and requests that
Health and Rehabilitative Services provide funding for services to
assist forty (40) mentally retarded adults. The Miami Beach
Activity Center now serves forty-seven (47) retarded adults at 8128
Collins Avenue, thirty-five (3 5) of whom are funded through the HRS
grant.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends approval of the Resolution.
