RESOLUTION 90-20171 RESOLUTION NO. 90-20171 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SEEKING THE ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS AND RESOLVING TO TAKE ALL POSSIBLE MEASURES TO CLEAN UP OUR ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. WHEREAS, the representatives of five cities from five countries located over three continents discussed issues of common concern at a gathering in Fujisawa Japan; and WHEREAS, the parties agreed that the greatest threats to all of mankind who desire to live in peace and prosperity are the proliferation of nuclear weapons and the destruction of our global environment; and WHEREAS, the termination of the cold war between the East and the West and the nuclear disarmament movement are positive developments for mankind; and WHEREAS, so long as nuclear weapons still exist they remain a threat to the entire world; and WHEREAS, recent events in the Middle East have highlighted the danger of chemical weapons as well as nuclear weapons; and WHEREAS, environmental destruction on a global scale including the destruction of the ozone layer, acid rain, felling in the tropical rain forests and global warming are major concerns; and WHEREAS, local waste disposal and the actions of individuals add to the global pollution crisis. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it agrees to do everything within its power and to petition its federal government to accomplish the following: 1. To seek the abolition of nuclear and chemical weapons; and 2 . To take all possible measures to clean up our environment for future generations.
