Morales, City Manager DATE: August 27, 2019 SUBJECT: Allure Magazine Feature on Miami each Ocean Rescue Lifeguard The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to share a recent story about one of our Ocean Rescue team members that was done by Allure Magazine. In partnership with the Ocean Rescue team, the city's marketing & communications team recently worked with Allure Magazine, a leading national women's publication focused on beauty, to create a video featuring "day in the life of a Miami Beach lifeguard" from a beauty regiment perspective. Allure, part of the Conde Nast family of brands which also include Glamour, Self, Vanity Fair, Vogue, the New Yorker and more, describes themselves as the beauty expert, an insiders' guide to a woman's total image, with a print audience of 5.3 million and an average monthly online audience of 8.3 million. Allure's mission is to investigate and celebrate beauty and fashion with objectivity and candor and to examine appearance in a larger cultural context. Allure Magazine has over 1.2 million YouTube subscribers, 1.4 million likes on Facebook, 576,000 Twitter followers and 750,000 followers on lnstagram. The 20-minute segment was a great opportunity for Miami Beach to highlight important beach safety information as well as one of our many outstanding employees. Miami Beach Ocean Rescue Lifeguard Brittany Austin was chosen by Allure and interviewed where she promoted her career as a lifeguard in the City of Miami Beach, taught viewers not only about how she keeps her skin safe from the sun but provided information on the tower flag warning colors and heat safety. Austin was able to offer an inside look at what it takes to train and be a part of the Miami Beach lifeguard family while offering an educational opportunity for viewers.
