P. inslido, City Manager SUBJECT: PROPOSED AMENDED FEE SCHEDULE FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION (RESOLUTION NO. 88-19293) BACKGROUND: The Fire Department presently provides medical transportation to persons requiring BLS or ALS transports on an as needed basis at a rate of $90. 00 per BLS transport and $150. 00 per ALS transport (established by Resolution No. 88-19293 , July 1988) . In an effort to provide the highest quality emergency medical treatment, the Fire Department has imposed internal procedures that have significantly increased fire rescue transports. In order to off set the increased budgetary costs and enable the Fire Department to continue to provide top quality emergency medical treatment, a rate increase has been proposed. The proposed increase is estimated to produce a revenue of $38 , 100 . 00 per month. OBSERVATION: The Fire Department has experienced increased budgetary costs in providing BLS and ALS transport service, both for medical supplies and increased vehicle maintenance costs. The implementation of the increased rates would be consistent with the rate structures of other providers, which have already enacted increased fee schedules (i.e. City of Miami and private ambulance companies) . No individual will be denied fire rescue transport services due to an inability to pay for such services. The proposed fee increase will provide needed revenue to the Fire Department to off set increased budgetary costs and will place the City within a rate structure comparable to surrounding Municipalities. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Resolution No. 88-19293 (Schedule of Fire Rescue Transport Fees for Fire Department) be amended to increase the present fire rescue transport fees to $120. 00 for BLS Transport and $180. 00 for ALS Transport. 4 8 AGENDA • ITEMN.6 DATE / 0 ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 90-20185 Amending Resolution No. 88-19293 to increase the present fire rescue transport fees from $90.00 for basic life support (BLS) and $150.00 for advanced life sup- port (ALS) to $120.00 for basic life sup- port (BLS) and $180.00 for advanced life support (ALS) .
