A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AUTHORIZING THE
CITY ADMINISTRATION TO FILE A GRANT
APPLICATION UNDER THE URBAN PARK AND
RECREATION RECOVERY ACT OF 1978.
WHEREAS, the Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Act of
1978 established a grant program to assist communities in
rehabilitation of park and recreation systems; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been determined
eligible to apply for said funds; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has established Work
Orders for the renovation of various park and recreation facilities
including Fairway Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager is
authorized and directed to file a grant application for $100, 000
for the Fairway Park Improvements Project, and to provide such
additional information as may be required with respect to the City
of Miami Beach' s participation in this program.

SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Filing of a Grant Application
Under the Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Act of 1978.
Authorization is requested to submit a grant application
to the National Park Service within the Urban Park and
Recreation Recovery (UPARR) Program. The grant program
was established to assist communities in the
rehabilitation of their park and recreation systems.
Funds received by the City would supplement the Parks and
Recreation Department' s funding under City Work Order
#2030 previously established by the Commission on
September 19, 1990. It is anticipated that these funds
will be utilized in the renovation of Fairway Park.
Funding is provided on a 70% Federal/30% local basis. k
The City of Miami Beach is eligible to receive a
potential award of $100, 000 from this program.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends approval of the resolution
permitting the filing of a grant application under the
Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Program. It would be
a great advantage to the City to be awarded funding from
this source.
