A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS IN
AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $20,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF
PAYING TRANSPORTATION, LODGING, ETC. RELATED TO THE
INTERVIEWING OF CANDIDATES FOR THE POSITION OF "CITY
MANAGER"; SUCH FUNDS TO BE PROVIDED FROM SALARY SAVINGS
RESULTING FROM THE VACANT CITY MANAGER'S POSITION.
WHEREAS, on April 24, 1991, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach
appointed a committee for the purposes of screening the 271 applicants for the
position of "City Manager" and to recommend a final list of candidates; and,
WHEREAS, at their meeting of May 13, 1991, the Screening Committee selected
30 applicants that they are desirous of interviewing and that it is necessary to
bring those applicants to the City of Miami Beach for interviews; and,
WHEREAS, it is estimated that expenditures for transportation, lodging,
mailing, etc. could be up to $20,000; and
WHEREAS, funding in this amount is available from salary savings due to the
vacant City Manager's position.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, that expenditures in an amount not to exceed $20,000 be
authorized for the purpose of providing transportation, lodging, mailings, etc.
for applicants to be interviewed for the position of "City Manager" , with funding
to be provided from salary savings due to the vacant City Manager's position and
that all such expenditures be subject to the City of Miami Beach's rules and
regulations governing the expenditure of such funds.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 22nd day of May , 1991 .

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURES OF FUND IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $20,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING TRANSPORTATION, LODGING,
MAILING, ETC. FOR APPLICANTS TO BE INTERVIEWED FOR THE POSITION OF CITY
MANAGER.
BACKGROUND
On April 24, 1991, the City Commission appointed a Screening Committee to review
the 271 applications that were received for the position of City Manager. After
reviewing all the applications, the Screening Committee, at their May 13, 1991
meeting, presented a list of 30 applicants indicating that they would like
additional information and that arrangements be made for the applicants to be
interviewed.
It is expected that transportation and lodging would have to be provided for
approximately 20 of the 30 applicants. It is estimated that the cost for this
process could be between $10,000 - $20,000.
In order to provide for the request of the Screening Committee, it is necessary
for the City Commission to authorize the expenditure of funds in an amount not
to exceed $20,000.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION'
The Administration recommends that in order to provide for the request of the
Screening Committee, it is necessary to adopt the attached resolution providing
the authorization to expend funds in an amount not to exceed $20,000 to be
provided from salary savings due to the vacant City Manager's position.
