A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO HOST THE 1995
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE
ANNUAL CONVENTION.
WHEREAS, the International Association of the Chiefs of
Police is widely recognized as the foremost professional police
organization in the world; and
WHEREAS, the International Association of Chiefs of
Police conducts annual conventions in host cities. These
conventions involve approximately 10, 000 delegates, who will bring
Three to Four Million Dollars in revenue to the host community; and
WHEREAS, the anticipated costs to the host city of One
Million Dollars will be divided equally among the host agencies of
Miami Beach, Miami, and Metro Dade. The Miami Beach portion of the
money will be raised from private sources and will not come from
City budgeted funds; and
WHEREAS, this recommendation is supported by Miami Beach
Police Chief Phillip G. Huber, Miami Police Chief Calvin Ross, and
Metro Dade Police Director Fred Taylor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT in recognition
of the Administration' s recommendation that Miami Beach co-host the
1995 International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual
Convention, we the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami
Beach do hereby authorize this convention on Miami Beach to be
hosted by the Miami Beach Police Department, Miami Police
Department, and Metro Dade Police Department. All Miami Beach
expenses are to be paid from privately raised funds.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 10th da of July , 1991.

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE 1991 INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION
OF CHIEFS OF POLICE ANNUAL CONVENTION ON MIAMI BEACH
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (I.A.C.P. ) is
widely recognized as the foremost professional police organization
in the world. The I.A.C.P. has over 14, 000 members from all 50
states and 77 countries.
Each year the I.A.C.P. conducts an annual convention in a host
city. These conventions are attended by approximately 10, 000
delegates and family members. Revenue generated by one of these
conventions is estimated at Three to Four Million Dollars in the
form of taxes and other expenditures of the attendees. In 1989,
the City of Miami Beach, the City of Miami, and Metro Dade, along
with assistance from the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors
Bureau, made a bid for the 1995 I.A.C.P. Convention to be held on
Miami Beach. The convention was awarded to our three (3) agencies,
on an equal sponsorship participation basis. Our City' s Convention
Center will be the site of the majority of convention related
activity, and our major hotels will house approximately 50% o f the
delegates.
The estimated cost to the three (3) host agencies regarding this
convention is $1, 000, 000. Each agency will be responsible for one-
third. The Miami Beach share ($333 , 000) will come from private
funds and will not come from budgeted City funds.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission authorize
the 1995 I.A.C.P. Convention to be hosted by the City of Miami
Beach, City of Miami, and Metro Dade.
