RECOMMENDATION The administration recommends that Mayor and Commission approve a sponsorship to Salsa a la Playa to consist of a one time cash sponsorship in the amount of $4,580.00 to be utilized towards venue rental fees at the North Shore Bandsheil. BACKGROUND/HISTORY The event"Salsa a La Playa" is committed to provide the Miami Beach community with a family friendly and free event to enjoy and teach rich Latin music culture through music. Over twenty five presenters have showcased pieces of their musical collection and shooed facts and details about their records and record collections. The initiative is based on the need for more family friendly events that provide an opportunity for the next generation to learn about Latin musical history and traditions. The core team includes Jul: Andrade, Juan Carlos Parra, Lucas Tor-rz and a group of volunteers involved in the planning, logistics and development of the event. The Salsa a la Playa organizers were referred to the Tourism and Culture Department seeking a venue to host the event, which had been previously held on the beach. The success of the event dictated that it needs a proper forum to provide for a quality event that was safe for families and the North Beach community. On June 7, 2019 the Tourism and Culture department met with the event producers to better understand the event and what help could be offered. TCD ensured the producers that they felt Page 938 of 2557 this was a great community initiative that should be supported. When discussed with the event organizers, they made certain that they did not require any financial support, but were just looking for a venue to hold their event. Tourism and Culture referred the event organizers to the Rhythm Foundation, the managers of the North Beach Bandshell. After discussions with the North Shore Bandshell, the event producers requested a cash sponsorship in the amount of the venue rental as follows: Venue Rental - $2,500.00 Venue Staff-$630.00 Tech Staff-$600.00 Security Staff-$550.00 Insurance -$300.00 Total -S4,580.00 On September 20, 2019 the FCWPC made the recommendation to support Salsa a la Playa with a cash sponsorship of up to $5000.00 to assist with venue rental fees for the North Shore Bandshell.
