A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PURSUANT TO THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
CHAPTER 4A, ENTITLED "ART IN PUBLIC PLACES"
AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF A NEW WORK ORDER
ENTITLED JUSTICE CENTER ART IN PUBLIC PLACES
WHICH TRANSFERS $167, 657 FROM THE EXISTING
WORK ORDER # 354.2917 ENTITLED JUSTICE CENTER,
WHICH WILL PERMIT ACCURATE TRACKING OF THE
BALANCE OF THE FUNDS APPROPRIATED PURSUANT TO
ORDINANCE NO. 84-2414 FOR THE ACQUISITION OF
ART FOR THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE AND COURT
FACILITY.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 84-2414, 1 1/2% of the
construction cost of the Miami Beach Police and Court Facility
shall be appropriated for acquiring works of art for the facility,
and
WHEREAS, the construction cost of the Miami Beach Police and
Court Facility was $11, 334, 250, and
WHEREAS, 1 1/2% of $11, 334, 250 is $170, 014 , which pursuant to
Resolution No. 87-19117 shall be the total amount appropriated for
the acquisition of these art works in Bond Fund # 354 , Work Order
# 354 . 2917, and
WHEREAS, $2 , 356 of this total amount has already been used
and/or encumbered as follows:
1. $2 , 356 - Advertisements
WHEREAS, the Art in Public Places Committee will acquire
several minor works of art and one major work of art, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, authorizes the establishment
of a new work order for the purpose of acquiring art for the Miami
Beach Police and Court Facility and transfer in the amount of
$167, 657 from Work Order # 354 . 2917 .

SUBJECT: Art in Public Places
In 1984 the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
passed Ordinance No. 84-2414 . Pursuant to Ordinance No. 84-2414 ,
le % of the construction cost of public buildings shall be
appropriated for acquiring works of art for such facilities.
In 1986 the Miami Beach Police and Court Facility was constructed
at a cost of $11, 334 , 250 . In accordance with Ordinance No. 84-
2414,
4-2414, 11/2% of this construction expense was computed to be $170, 014 .
The City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, passed
Resolution No. 87-19117 which appropriated $170, 014 for the
acquisition of art works. These funds were placed into Bond Fund
#354 .
As per established procedures, the Commission authorized the
creation of an Art in Public Places Committee. The Commission then
permitted the expenditure of $2 , 357 to pay for the selection
process used to determine which artists would be chosen to create
the works of art.
In 1992 the contracted artists began completing their works, and
the City' s payments started to become due. It was discovered that
the Art in Public Places funds were included in Work Order
#354 . 2917 entitled Justice Center. In order to ensure the accurate
tracking of Art in Public Places expenditures, it is now necessary
to transfer the remaining art funds ($167 , 657) from Work Order
#354 . 2917 entitled Justice Center, into a new Work Order entitled
Art for the Miami Beach Police and Court Facility.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, authorizes the transfer of $167 , 657 from
Work Order #354 . 2917 entitled Justice Center into a new Work Order
entitled Art for the Miami Beach Police and Court Facility.
