Carlton frt City Manager SUBJECT: PROPOSED AMENDED FEE SCHEDULE FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION (RESOLUTION NO. 90-20185) BACKGROUND: The Fire Department presently provides medical transportation to persons requiring Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) transports at a rate of $120. 00 per BLS transport and $180. 00 per ALS transport (established by Resolution No. 90-20185, December 1990) . In an effort to provide the highest quality emergency medical treatment, the. Fire Department has imposed internal procedures that have significantly increased fire rescue transports. In order to offset the increased costs and enable the Fire Department to continue to provide top quality emergency medical treatment, a rate increase has been proposed. OBSERVATION: The Fire Department has experienced increased budgetary costs in providing BLS and ALS transport service, both for medical supplies and increased vehicle maintenance costs. The implementation of the increased rates will be consistent with the rate structures of Metropolitan Dade County Fire Department. The proposed fee increase will provide needed revenue to the Fire Department to offset increased budgetary costs. The revenue increase due to the fee adjustments will be $360, 000 during FY 92/93 , assuming a sixty percent (60%) collection rate. No individual will be denied fire rescue transport services due to an inability to pay for such services. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Resolution No. 90-20185 (Schedule of Fire Rescue Transport Fees for Fire Department) be amended to increase the present fire rescue transport fees to $150. 00 for BLS Transpo:t and $250. 00 for ALS Transport. 01 A:Rescue\ALSBLS.CMJ AGENDA tC.- I TEM DATE - 2-- t CITY OF MIAMI BEACH FIRE DEPARTMENT TO: BRANIARD DORRIS FIRE CHIEF FROM: TOM SULLIVAN ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF DATE: SEPTEMBER 10, 1992 SUBJECT: AMBULANCE/RESCUE TRANSPORT RATES The following information regarding current ambulance/rescue transport rates and requested increases of the surrounding municipalities has been provided by the fire departments of the municipality.
