Morales, City Manager DATE: November 18, 2019 SUBJECT: Sunset Islands 1 & 2 Neighborhoo — Closure of Entrance Lanes The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information to the Mayor and City Commission regarding the status of the Sunset Islands 1 & 2 Neighborhood Guardhouse construction. The scope of services includes renovation of the existing guardhouse consisting of roof, doors, windows, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, finishes, building facade repair, construction of a new guardhouse at the center median on W. 29 Street, hardscape improvements including decorative brick pavers, installation of gate arms, traffic loops, landscaping, irrigation, pavement marking and signage within the Right-of-Way. At this time the contractor has reconstructed the exit lane and installed the decorative pavers. They continue to work on completing the guardhouse at the center of the road (W. 29 Street) and now need to commence the construction of the entrance lanes. To safely reconstruct the entrance lanes, it is necessary to close these lanes to vehicular traffic. The contractor has submitted a maintenance of traffic plan (MOT), which includes installation of temporary traffic signals to direct traffic in and out of the neighborhood. The MOT plan has been reviewed and approved by the Transportation and Public Works Departments. In addition, this plan has been presented to the Homeowner's Association (HOA) and received approval. The closure of the entrance lanes is to be implemented from November 19 through November 27, 2019 (Attachment A). Should you have any questions, please contact David Martinez at 305-673-7071.
