RESOLUTION 93-20720 RESOLUTION NO. 93-20720 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA ENDORSING THE PROPOSED LEAGUE OF CITIES RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO AMEND SECTION 125.0104, FLORIDA STATUTES, TO ALLOW METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY TO INCREASE THE FOOD AND BEVERAGE TAX BY TWO PERCENT (2%) . WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida recognizes the needs of the homeless residing in Dade County, Florida; and WHEREAS, the Governor' s Task Force on Homelessness has recommended that the Food and Beverage Tax be increased by two percent (2%) beginning in Fiscal Year 93-94 , with the projected twenty million dollars ($20, 000, 000) raised in the first year to be used exclusively for housing and services to serve the thousands of homeless persons residing in Dade County, and WHEREAS, the attached proposed Resolution which will be presented to the Dade League of Cities urges the Florida Legislature to amend Section 125 . 0104 , Florida Statutes to allow Metropolitan Dade County to provide for 1) a two-percent (2%) increase in the Food and Beverage tax beginning in FY 93- 94 , 3-94 , with the projected twenty million dollars raised in the first year to be used exclusively for housing and services to serve the homeless in Dade County; and 2) the funds raised in the second year to be used as follows: a. Thirty-five percent (35%) for homeless programs, b. Thirty-five percent (35%) for tourism programs, c. Twenty-five percent (25%) for arts programs; and 3) for Dade County and its municipalities to cooperate in formulating an equitable distribution formula for years two through five. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City Commission endorses the attached proposed League of Cities resolution urging the Florida Legislature to amend Section 125. 0104 , Florida Statutes to allow Metropolitan Dade County to increase the Food and Beverage Tax by Two Percent 0 (2%) .
