RESOLUTION NO. 93-20744
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,FLORIDA,
GRANTING $27,700 TO THE CONCERT ASSOCIATION OF
GREATER MIAMI INC., FOR THE PURPOSE OF
RENOVATIONS TO THE COLONY THEATER;
APPROPRIATING THE FUNDS FROM THE
REALLOCATED BOND FUND; APPROVING THE GRANT
AGREEMENT; AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND
THE CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
Whereas, the City of Miami Beach is the owner of the Colony Theater located at
1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, Florida; and,
Whereas, the City of Miami Beach has entered into a agreement with the Concert
Association of Greater Miami Inc. for their operations of the Colony Theater; and,
Whereas, the Concert Association of Greater Miami Inc. wishes to make certain
capital improvements to the Colony Theater which will become the property of the City; and,
Whereas, the Concert Association of Greater Miami Inc. has secured grants from the
Dade County Cultural Arts Council for $27,700 which require matching funds; and,
Whereas, funds are available in the City's Reallocated Bond Fund for the matching
funds for these capital improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Concert
Association of Greater Miami Inc. be granted the amount of $27,700, that these funds be
appropriated from the Reallocated Bond Funds, that the attached grant agreement be
approved, and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to execute this agreement
on behalf of the City of Miami Beach.

Subject: Grant Award to the Concert Association of Greater Miami, Inc. for
Renovation to the Colony Theater
Recommendation
The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve this grant to the
Concert Association of Greater Miami Inc. for $27,700. This is a matching grant to the
grant from the Dade County Cultural Arts Council for fiscal years 91/92 and 92/93.
Background
The grants from the Cultural Arts Council with the City's matching grant will be used
for renovations to the backstage, onstage and inner house areas. Renovations will include
work on the dressing areas, lighting and rigging systems in the theater. These improvements
will help to make this facility into a fully functional performance venue for small
productions.
Analysis
This grant is another in a series of grants for capital improvements at the Colony
Theater which match grants from the Cultural Arts Council. The funds for this $27,700
grant are available in Bond Fund #351, Reallocated Bond Fund.
Conclusion
This grant of $27,700 to the Concert Association of Greater Miami Inc. should be
granted because it will produce $55,400 in improvements to the Colony Theater and
leverage our funds two to one.
