No. 5-1999 LETTER TO COMMISSION January 8, 1999 TO: Mayor Neisen O. Kasdin and Members of the City Co mission FROM: Sergio Rodriguez City Manager SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CALMING COMMITTEE At the November 4, 1998, City Commission Meeting, the Commission directed the Administration to establish a Citizen's Traffic Calming Committee to address traffic calming issues in the City. A Letter of Commission dated November 25, 1998 (attached hereto), indicated that the Traffic and Parking Committee would continue as the official advisory committee on matters dealing with traffic and parking, and the new committee would concentrate on traffic calming measures and related issues. The Traffic and Parking Committee has expressed concern regarding a duplication of efforts and the implications relative to the Municipal Mobility Plan. Therefore, it is further recommended that the Citizen's Traffic Calming Committee be formed as a sub-committee of the Traffic and Parking Committee and that the Traffic and Parking Committee appoint one of its members as the chairperson of the Citizen's Traffic Calming sub-committee to ensure the community's concerns are properly and timely addressed. The Traffic Calming sub- committee shall consist of members of the Traffic and Parking Committee and interested residents of the community. This structure should facilitate and ensure that implementation of new initiatives become part of the City's overall plan. c: Christina Cuervo, Assistant City Manager Janet Gavarrete, Assistant City Manager Jacqueline Gonzalez, Parking Director Julio Grave de Peralta, Public Works Director Dean Grandin, Planning Director SR:C~lrdv F:\CMGR\$ALL\L TC,99\TCC,99 CITY OF MIAMI BEACH CITY HALL 1700 CONVENTION CENTER DRIVE MIAMI BEACH FLORIDA33139 OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER TELEPHONE: (305) 673-7010 FAX: (305) 673-7782 LETTER TO COMMISSION L.T.C.
