Upcoming Miami-Dade County Tr sportation & Public Works Tree Trimming on
Pine Tree Drive
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information to the Mayor and City
Com mission about the upcoming tree trimming on Pine Tree Drive between 41° Street and 46"
Street by the Miami-Dade County Transportation & Public Works. This work precedes the milling
and resurfacing work that will be conducted by county. The pruning will be similar to the work that
took place on Pine Tree Drive south of 41 st Street in summer of 2019.
Pruning will follow the recommended end-weight reduction plan set forth by the last tree risk
assessment of this corridor, which was conducted in September of 2017. The Australian Pine
Trees along Pine Tree Drive have been designated as historic, and all measures are being taken
to increase the longevity of these trees while balancing public safety. After the County finishes
the scheduled pruning work and roadwork, the City will retain the services of a consulting arborist
to reassess the 271 Australian Pines along the entire corridor. Based on the results of this report,
there may be some removals necessary due to public safety.
The pruning of the Australian Pine trees on Pine Tree Drive is scheduled to commence on
Tuesday January 7, 2020 and will continue for approximately three weeks, although inclement
weather could extend the project's timetable beyond that.
Complete roadway closures will be necessary due to conduct the necessary pruning safely.
Local access will be granted to the impacted properties using flagmen and police officers. All
road work will be conducted between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The phases of the road closures
are:
Phase I, road closure on Pine Tree Drive between 45" Street and 46" Street
Phase Il, road closure on Pine Tree Drive between 44" Street and 45" Street
Phase Ill, road closure on Pine Tree Drive between 41° Street and 44 Street
